Hitwise has released a new report showing that the length of search queries has increased over the past year. Apparently longer search queries, 5+ words in length, have increased by 10% and shorter search queries, 1 to 4 words, have decreased by 2%. This has got me thinking about what could have changed over the last year to affect people’s searches.

I’ve been following this case from the beginning and am overjoyed that the Kentucky Court of Appeals has ruled against the Franklin Circuit Court from seizing Internet domain names. Now for those of you not in the know, last year Kentucky Gov. Steve Beshear seized 141 gambling domains allegedly in an act to protect his state from the big bad gambling industry.

No one knows exactly what Google has done to their algorithms, but it’s apparent that they’ve made a major change that will have serious repercussions for SEOs. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, go out to Google and do a search… notice anything in particular, like Google is promoting big brands and has given them a huge boost in their rankings.

Payment Service Provider Epoch recently sent out service termination notices to several large adult affiliates. Allegedly the letter highlighted Epoch’s termination clause, but didn’t give a reason for the termination. I’d understand if the companies were involved in shady business practices, but they still should have given a reason.

I’ll probably get crap for saying this, but I did not watch the Super Bowl. I hear it was a great game, but football just isn’t my thing and I don’t feel like I missed out. However, if I lived in Tucson AZ, I might feel like I missed out after hearing about the 30-sec porn “glitch” during the 4th quarter.

A new Trojan is on the loose and this one is like no other. This Trojan doesn’t install malware or any other malicious code when it infects a computer. In fact, most people won’t even know they have it unless they try accessing file sharing sites The Pirate Bay and Mininova.

In an effort to assist the Chinese government with their crackdown on internet porn, the Chinese Academy of Sciences has come up with a tool that detects porn on the Internet. However, there is one tiny little problem with this new tool… it can only recognize porn in written form. Doh!

For all those shady webmasters out there who are actively using pre-checked cross-sales, beware… MasterCard is about to put the smack down! MasterCard announced that they are going to start enforcing its rule that prohibits cross sales schemes and will be levying fines up to $50k per week if the practice continues.
