A political group in the UK is pushing to have strip clubs reclassified as "sex encounter establishments" rather than allowing them to continue under the provisions usually applied to regular drinking establishments.

A strip club owner in New York apparently followed the law in terms of placing signage and enforcing a 'no sex' rule in his strip club, but also provided private booths that made such acts inevitable, and regularly 'fined' girls he caught having sex with customers.

While many girls in the business will claim that the benefits of financial independence far outweigh the dangers of exploitation presented by the exotic dancing business, the reality of drugs, rape, and abuse are evidence of a darker side to this often glamorized industry.

A group of senators from Louisiana had proposed a bill to ban lap dancing in strip clubs around the state due to their opinion that giving a lap dance is tantamount to having sex, and is therefore simply veiled prostitution. Fortunately, other senators did not agree and voted down the bill.

The 6th Circuit Court of Appeals in Kentucky has upheld a 2004 Kenton County resolution to require nude dancers to maintain a 5 foot barrier between them and guests- a law challenged by local strip club owners on the basis of free speech.
