Google No Longer Endorses the Competition

14
points

While Google used to suggest that website owners register their sites not only with Google, but also with other competing directories, these guidelines have apparently been removed from their webmaster guidelines. This may indicate that Google is devaluing Yahoo's links, or may simply be an omission they've made in the interest of not promoting their competitors.

I'm not really sure this is news. It could be Google just decided to make their documentation more obtuse and at the same time concise. Protect the company's secrets by obscuring information which could be used to benefit those in the know.

I'd still say that getting yourself listed in as many relevant directories as possible couldn't hurt.

Sounds like Yahoo and Google are preparing for a real showdown.

I wonder if they're discounting Yahoo's links as well.

I still think you'll get some benefit from registering at Yahoo, just not from Google's point of view.

Greedy bastards.

I've always wondered how Yahoo could charge $600 for something Google gives away for free.
