Department of Justice Fired Lawyers for Not Prosecuting Obscenity Cases

6
points

A newly released report by the Department of Justice is bringing light to the cases of two US Attorneys who were fired apparently because they refused to try obscenity cases assigned to them by General Alberto Gonzales' second-in-command Kyle Sampson. According to Sampson, the attorneys were "unwilling to take good cases we have presented to them." The report also discloses a number of instances where the Attorney General seems to have tried to push an anti-porn agenda on uncooperative district judges and highlights a vengeful campaign taken by Washington against the adult industry over the past 8 years.

This was a big scandal when it broke but the current administration swept it under the rug. Now the complete facts have come to light, several years later, and shown the misdeeds for what they truly were. For a republican-held government, it sure seems odd how much they like to use their federal powers to trump the local governments will.
