Neighbors of Richard Smith thought they were living next to a sex offender, and ran circulations through the neighborhood to label him as such. As he shared both the name and birthday with a registered sex offender in the neighborhood, it is easy to see how the mistake was made, however, given the inflammatory nature of such an accusation, they would have been smarter to double check their facts before spreading rumors that now have them facing a lawsuit.

Wow, that's really horrible and I'm not shocked it happened in Oregon since everyone living there has to know everyone else's business.
