In Thailand, of all places, a new discovery became a possible yet significant first step in creating an AIDS virus. After so many years, something positive and conclusive has finally started to appear. How did this discovery come about? The Thai researchers decided to play around with two old vaccines. Though these vaccines were generally not as potent, mixing them together somehow prevented further HIV infection. Don't you just love synergy?
If this is truly the breakthrough we are looking for, I only hope that greed and politics won't stand in the way in realizing a true HIV vaccine, and for it to be made readily available to the public in the future.
