Google Announces Public DNS Service

Connor Young writes about Google's new racket, a public DNS Service that is supposedly going to make user's protected from spoofing, and make surfing the internet less prone to mistakes. I suppose the ones who will most benefit from this are surfers who do transactions online. The Public DNS service (which is still in experimental stage) was created to addresses the problem of phishing and other security concerns. Google just wants us to see them as the almighty online enabler who will make our lives better.

After all the spin being played out, I can't help but feel that something is amiss.
Why is it that the more they talk about performance and quality, the less inclined I am to believe them?

Google is doing this so they can have yet another database of information to use against people trying to game their algorithm. They're already a ICANN registrar, even though they don't offer domain registration services, and providing DNS services will get them one step closer to easily seeing who domains share the same IP addresses and ownership.
